Laurens County Agriculturalist of the Year

Last week at the Clemson Extension Spotlight on Agriculture Dinner, Dr. John Irwin was recognized as the Laurens County Agriculturalist of the Year. Billy Abercrombie presented the award and highlighted some of the recipient's accomplishments. We were lucky enough to get a copy and will share some of this information here:




· BS MS Clemson

· PHD – Animal Nutrition - Clemson

· Laurens County Farm Bureau Board Member

· Retired 2009 from the Laurens County Cattlemen’s Association after 30 years of service.

· Wife – Elaine Irwin (Campbell) from Whitmire

· Anna and Ben (and 4 grandchildren)

· Famous for feed ration development in Clemson Extension

· Did lots of work with Cattle EPDS and Sire Selection

· Helped with bull test sales

· Primary interest in 4-H livestock programs

· Chair of Multi-state junior beef roundup program

· Helped develop the 4-H Livestock show in Laurens

· Serves as Cattle and Goat 4-H Judge at many fairs

· Instrumental in the growth of the LCCA as an adviser

· SCCA Foundation member and in charge of silent auction for youth scholarships

· Nominating committee member of SCFB Piedmont Region
